The Stimulous Package

In an earlier posting I talked about the fact that President Obama might compromise on the stimulous bill in order to obtain more bipartisian support. However, despite increasing some tax cuts, the bill in current form remains mostly a "priming the pump" bill i.e. a bill that will help the economy by using governemnt money to fund jobs. This fact has led many Republicans and some Conservative Democrats to oppose the bill, and is currently threatening it's passage in the Senate.

This is a perfect example of the effects of politics on policy. What might be the best policy (or at least a coherent one rather then fractured) might end up having to be fractured for its political life, at the expense of the policy implications.
